We're home!

Last day of the road trip, we crossed NY the long way, and then Massachusetts. There was a lot of fog in western mass, but other than that it was an easy day of driving, even if it was a little long. There's tons of chargers out here, so it's pretty easy to stop and charge at convenient times. We also discovered that we could drive from Albany to Somerville on a full charge, but we didn't wait around for that, so we had a little 10 minute stop in Charlton. It really makes Mass seem kinda small.

Here's a few pics of Vanessa doing a little yoga at a stop in NY:

It started off rainy today, and ended up foggy and damp at the end, but it was actually pretty and sunny for a nice bit in the middle

Last night on the road

We're staying outside of Buffalo, in a little town by lake Erie. Tomorrow we cross New York and Massachusetts, one more day on rt 90.

We made gnocchi and broccoli for dinner with a tahini sauce, it came out so well. One of the best meals of the trip maybe??

East Coast Standard Time

We started the day by getting on rt. 90, and we're going to be on it for the rest of the trip. We also just crossed over in to EST

We've got about 14 hours of driving left over two days, we'll be home tomorrow :)

It was very smokey in east Iowa today

Today we crossed an entire state, then the Mississippi then another entire state. And if it wasn't for that little chunk taken out of Indiana we'd be back on East Coast time tonight.

Here's the last of Iowa before we crossed over in to Illinois

Our of Colorado

Bringing back this song from the soundtrack for today

We spent most of the day heading east on rt 80 through Nebraska. I think we took like 5 turns and saw two hills before we got to Lincoln.

Also, quick question for anyone that knows birds. We saw lots of geese migrating, but then also saw lots of other big gray birds that logged like cranes or herons, maybe lots of young ones two? They were mostly out in fields as we were driving by, so we didn't get a great look at them. Do herons migrate through Nebraska this time of year??

(Edit: heard from a reliable source that it's the sandhill crane migration)

Say goodbye to the Rockies

"Vail Pass is a 10,662-foot-high mountain pass in the Rocky Mountains of central Colorado. The pass was named for Charles Vail, a highway engineer and director of the Colorado State Highway Department from 1930 to 1945"

We're in Denver, spent a good chunk of the day on rt. 70 driving up and then down the Rockies. 70 runs right next to the Colorado River through there, and I think this is the 4th time we've seen the river on our road trip. The first was when we went to the grand canyon, then we crossed it going in to California, just missed it (and the Hoover dam) going up to Vegas, then saw it again in Canyonlands. The headwaters of the Colorado is about 100 miles northwest of where we are now.

Outside of Vail we ran in to some traffic because they had trucks and backhoes picking up rocks that had fallen on to the road.
