We had a little discussion on the existential nature of this sign while driving in to Albuquerque
There's no "may" about it, they definitely exist.
Yesterday started off in the middle of Arkansas, and there were tornado warnings to our east, fortunately we were headed west. Today ended on the western side of New Mexico and there's a blizzard to our west. All of the middle between has been driving through Oklahoma and Texas and it's been coooold.
It was in the low 30s through most of Oklahoma, and then in the 20s in Texas. When we woke up in Amarillo TX it was six.
Frigid cold is pretty bad for an electric car's range, the battery likes to be warmer than six, and so do the humans in it, so we use up some extra amount of electrond keeping everything warm. Fortunately there's plenty of chargers, and we've got seat heaters and so it took a little bit longer than planned but we made it through pretty smoothly.
It's weird to think that this part of the trip would've been nearly impossible in perfect weather in this car just a few years ago, there just weren't enough fast chargers to make a couple legs of the drive. And in a couple years it'll probably be trivial even in the coldest weather. We stopped at 4 chargers on our trip today, and we passed 3 more that are opening this year.
